Welcome back to PowerPoint Training Online. In this weeks video tutorial, we are going to show you how to convert a Google Slides to a PowerPoint presentation.
We love using both PowerPoint and Google Slides but as you can tell by our name, we do prefer PowerPoint a little bit more. That does not make us biased though, there are times when we feel Google Slides trumps PowerPoint. You can read our completely unbiased head to head in our article “What is better: Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides”.
The majority of the world use PowerPoint, in fact up to some five hundred million people use it on an annual basis. Although Google slides is not near that figure, it is still used a lot within universities and businesses. And it is for this reason that it is handy to know how to convert a Google Slides presentation to a PowerPoint Presentation. You may work in PowerPoint but your work colleague or student friend may be working in Google Slides.

The “How to convert a Google Slides to a PowerPoint” step-by-step guide
Step One – Open Google Drive
Open your Google Drive by clicking on the following link
Remember Google Drive is a free, online web service provided by Google. Before completing this step you need to make sure you have a Google account and are connected to the world wide web (I am presuming you already are if you are reading this).
Step Two – Open a Google Slides Presentation
Now that Google Drive is open, you need to open the presentation that you want to then convert to a PowerPoint presentation. If you have never used Google Drive before, it is handy to know that it is a file storage system, like windows explorer.
When looking for the Google Slide presentation, remember to look out for the following symbol. This is a quick way of identifying a Google slide.
Step Three – Press File
With a presentation open, we can now do what we came to do and that is to convert a Google Slides to a PowerPoint.
Press the file button in the top left-hand corner of the menu.
Step Four – Press Download
About a third of the way down the file menu, you will see Download, when you hover over this a new menu will appear.
Step Five – Select Microsoft Powerpoint
From this menu, you need to press Microsoft PowerPoint. This will then start to download the file in PPTX format.
Step Six – Open Downloads
Usually, when a file is downloaded it will go into the downloads folder. It is possible that you have changed the location of where your downloads go, if this is the case then, unfortunately, I cannot help you at this point
Step Seven – Work your magic
With the presentation now open in PowerPoint, you can start to work.
Whether this is something that you created originally or was shared with you. It does not matter. You can now edit and make changes within PowerPoint.
We hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial on how to convert a Google Slides to a PowerPoint presentation. Although this was not solely focused on PowerPoint this week, it does give you a great way of working with somebody that does not use PowerPoint.
